On Thursday, June 4, 2015, from 3:00 – 4:30 p.m., the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) and City Council Member Annabel Palma, in partnership with the Carmelo Anthony Foundation (CAF) will dedicate the newly renovated basketball courts at the James Monroe Houses in the Bronx. The basketball court which had fallen into disrepair was repaved and painted by CAF, who also installed new backboards just in time for summer. In addition to remarks and the ribbon cutting ceremony, basketballs will be provided for pick-up games.
The Monroe Houses basketball refurbishment is one of a series committed for NYCHA communities supported by the Courts for Kids project with the Carmelo Anthony Foundation. Last month, refurbished basketball courts were dedicated at Coney Island Houses and in 2013, NBA basketball star Carmelo Anthony helped dedicate newly renovated courts at Red Hook Houses—the NYCHA development he grew up in.
